Online Foundation Work
Program Preparation
Reading lists will be posted on your program site in early May. Online pre-departure sessions with your teachers and classmates begin one week prior to departure. These virtual sessions are designed to introduce you to your classmates, teachers, and course work. Our goal is to prepare you to hit the ground running and reduce your workload onsite.

Toronto
Day 1: To begin our journey, students commence in the heart of Toronto’s financial district in the boardroom of Caldwell Securities. Students get their first taste of what it takes to build a thriving organization as they shake hands with some of Bay Street’s most influential players.

New York City
Days 2-7: From Toronto, students travel to New York City and hit the streets of Manhattan. Here, we experience the scale and influence of Big Business at the New York Stock Exchange and the storied world of Wall Street. The city acts as both a backdrop and a case study itself, as lectures focus on real estate and the effects of financial markets on the world economy. Students compete in their first of four high stakes business competitions.

London
Days 7-14: In London, students learn about the impact of ‘old money’ in Western culture at the Royal Exchange, the Bank of England, and Westminster Abbey. Students conduct small business case studies in Camden Market, deliver rants at Speaker’s Corner in Hyde Park, and watch Shakespeare performed at the Globe Theatre. Students compete in their second business competition that focuses on real estate opportunities in select boroughs of London.

Paris
Days 14-22: En route to Paris, we stop at Vimy Ridge to delve into the economics of war, while the English course explores poetry written in the trenches of WWI. In Paris, our business lessons shift to the study of effective branding and leadership styles as students experience the opulence of the Palace of Versailles and the glitz of the Champs-Élysées. The artwork in the Musée D’Orsay, the Musée du Louvre, and the Pompidou Centre is used to inspire students to create short stories and poetry. To finish our session in Paris, students gear up for the business competition held in the ancient Roman amphitheatre of Arènes de Lutèce to test their leadership and negotiation skills.

Strasbourg
Days 22-24: We take a pause from the energy and intensity of two of Europe's capitals in Strasbourg—a UNESCO World Heritage city on the border of France and Germany. A climb up the Gothic Notre Dame Cathedral, which has survived plagues, revolutions, and two world wars, highlights this Alsatian stop on our program. Here, we take a deep dive into history and English, focusing on the use of critical lenses in literary analysis and the conditions that allowed for the outbreak of the First World War.

Swiss Alps
Days 24-29: As we head to the top of Europe, students have a chance to gear down and reenergize in the Swiss village of Mürren. We will balance our days with mountain hikes, fireside podcasts, and academic one-on-one time. This essential break affords students the time to clear their mind to develop English essays, refine trading skills, and craft their All-Weather investment portfolio.

Munich
Days 29-: Following, students will continue their journey north to the Bavarian city of Munich. They will take to the streets with cameras in hand, attempting to capture the remnants of its tumultuous past as well as the present economic powerhouse it has become. Often thought of as the fashion hub of Germany, we will look to the Maximillianstrasse as an entry point into marketing and branding topics of our international business course. This wide Boulevard is packed with high-end shops and shoppers trying to find a deal from the world's most exclusive stores. Here, we dive into the European Union's business practices and see firsthand the challenges and opportunities that entrepreneurs have to face. The remaining days in Munich will play host to various academic writing pieces, all set to the backdrop of the pristine English Gardens and vibrant city centre. We finish our stay with a business competition that will have you exploring the city.
Departure from Munich Airport on Day 35

Online Final Evaluation Week
Upon your return, you have time to complete additional research and pull your work together before your final one-on-one online assessment. This week allows you to reflect on your travel experiences and integrate them into the course material. MEI staff have found this style of evaluation enjoyable and the most authentic way for students to demonstrate their knowledge and academic skills.
